I N D I A 02/16/2012
This dinner is in honor of Tara Ganapathy, my home girl from home (obvi). Holla T girl. Stick it to them Hoyas and don't let the playa haters and the booty-gril-lovin-braddas getcha down. India. Land of the Little Princess, elephants, scarves, and muted sunlight flitting through the palms, before daddy died and she went to England to sweep floors and be punished by Miss Minchin. Land where Annabelle hails, where aunties eat ghee and cockroaches crawl in the bathroom, and monsoons fill the streets with warm bathwater that Gwen Stefani would love to dance in, that Patrick Swayze fought in in that pretty bad high school world civ film screening (rest in peace Swayze -- remember that time I saw you riding your bike down Ku'ukama Street and I made Mamma turn the car around and we followed you all through the neighborhood loop until we realized it wasn't you?). Land of many languages, land of the doctors of the family of Sammy C, land of the Aryians in the north back before German tyranny decided head size measured brain capacity, land of many sexual poses, land of Buddha, hanging from the ribbon on my wrist, born on my birthday, a constant reminder that emptyness is full and that not everyone needs to understand what thinking about breathing really means when you think about breathing in yoga. Land of the bestevah food, when you're in the mood, which you are tonight, reading this in your room, watching the rain turn to snow, wondering why Vermont is the motherF hole of wholesome sorrow and gray sadness and why, why, why, won't you come to Indian Dinner tonight at Weybridge?
